Made from reclaimed oak or maple, this sand tray has hand cut ‘through-and-through’ dovetailed corners. This is an inter-locking type of hand-cut joinery that is extremely durable. This ensures long and useful life for this sand tray, which will hold up to many years of vigorous use.

As with all of our sand trays, this tray interior is waterproofed and suitable for use with wet sand. The tray interior has been given three coats of marine-grade epoxy for water-tightness, and an additional three coats of marine-grade sky-blue enamel, which is highly abrasion resistant and will be able to withstand many years of hard use with either wet or dry sand.
The exterior of this sand tray is finished with three hand-rubbed coats of polyurethane. This provides an easily maintained low-lustre, durable, and odour-free finish. This naturally light-toned sand tray looks very professional in any setting, and often has beautiful grain features. Your dovetailed sand tray is made from re-claimed hardwood, most often from local buildings that have been taken down to make way for new construction. Typically the wood in this sand tray comes from door frames and casings in commercial and public buildings that were built in the 1920’s.
As with all of our other trays, our dovetailed sand tray features a standard (Kalffian) interior dimension: 28.5” x 19.5” x 3”. The exterior dimensions of this sand tray are approximately 29.75″ x 20.75″ x 3.5″. This exterior dimension will vary slightly depending on the thickness of the material used (usually about 5/8″) but in every case the interior dimensions of all of our sand trays are exactly as required for standard therapeutic use, as specified above.
